tests have began on the generation of first power from the bui hydro electric
power project.
In
this report, daniel lartey, highlights preparations towards the evacuation of
133 megawatts of power by the end of april 2013.

construction
works at the bui hydro electric power dam are nearing completion.
workers
are currently busy fixing parts on the
components which will generate the first 133 megawatts of energy.
the
power house overhead bridge crane which can lift 360 tonnes of load was in
operation.
the
turbine for the 133 generator has been assembled
the
turbine area has been cordoned off with wooden bars and only authorized workers
were allowed to enter.
the
turbine floor, containing the turbine arrangements was also ready.
Installation of drainage pumps, cooler and
water treatment plant were all complete
Several
control panels for the first generation have been lined adjacent the turbine
area.

gathered that the first test has already been carried out and was successful.
workers
at the dam site work on a 24 hour shift in a bid to get the system running.
bulldozers
were cited shelving off sand around the bridge area deep in the night.
the
rock fill saddle dam on the right bank with a length of 3.30 meters and 52
meters in height is about 99 percent complete with all road works outstanding.
the
authority explained the saddle dam will prevent water spillage across down
stream.

dam two was however yet to be completed.
chief
executive officer of the authority, jabesh amissah arthur assured, the supply
of 133 of 400 megawatts of energy barring any unforeseen circumstance.

The
roller compacted concrete gravity dam incorporating a 5 bay spill way and three
penstocks in the middle of the dam is almost complete.
Works
on the permanent bridge linking the brong ahafo and northern region is
completed and

roads were nearing completion.
The
bui boss attributed the 90percent overall progress of work to the dedication
and hard work of staff and foreign partners.
