VT

through communal labour, residents of anyamam, in the ada west municipality, fight sanitation in the area, oblivious of the negative effects their method of disposing of the waste they collect would have on them.

 V/O

anyaman is a fishing village on the coast of sege.

the village is divided by the songor lagoon and residence once depended on it for commercial production of  tilapia.

they make income by transporting the excess fish to neighbouring communities.

through the improper dumping of waste around the lagoon, residents lament aquatic life has been negatively affected as evidenced in the low catch they have to content with lately.

although some have decided to clear and burn the rubbish through communal labour, they leave the debris just around the lake.

samuel okutu, a resident said they barely make a good catch and appealed for litter bins for the community.

the lake is now a haven for these young children who walked naked in the lagoon with the aim of collecting fingerlings.

dce for the area, Anthony yaw klokpa, assured of a more concerted effort in dealing with the situation.
